Yesterday I put some finishing touches on the graphic design of ZiZee’s logo. I was originally planning on just letting everyone see the logo when I launched ZiZee’s website, but I figured why wait. So here our new logo… KA-POW!

Back on your feet yet? Sorry, I know it’s rather irresponsible to drop that bombshell without any warnings for those with heart problems, but I figure it is better to ask for forgiveness than to seek permission…
To create this image I have been using the brilliant Inkscape, a really nice Free open-source vector image editing software. Inkscape is a free alternative to Illustrator. One of the nice things about Inkscape is that it produces SVG files as its native format. SVG files are an open XML based W3C standard which is a great open alternative to Adobe’s Flash format1. Open standards for software mean a lot to me (as they should to you) as they mean more than one party can create tools to work with those standards. This is A Good Thing(TM), as if there is only one option, then you really are putting all your eggs in the one basket and we all know how that can end up.
Because it’s based on standards, these files can be edited in a plethora of other image editing software, so if another image editor comes along that out-sexys Inkscape I won’t be tied down. Hell, I could even hand edit the XML (with butterflies no less) if I really wanted to be really leet (really!), but for now I’ll stick with Inkscape as it does the job brilliantly.
For those that are interested in playing with Inkscape here is the logo in SVG format. Just download the file and open this with your favourite SVG editor and see how I created it.
Anyhow, I’ve have to go and and work at making some more mind blowing creations

1. Ironically Adobe was one of the main proponents of the SVG format in an effort to move people away from Macromedia’s dominant Flash technology, Adobe then bought Macromedia and promptly started to withdraw it’s support for SVG.
